Where to sail in Thailand

Thailand is a tropical charter with bases on Phuket: a week takes in Phang Nga Bay with its limestone cliffs, the Phi Phi islands and Krabi in short legs over sheltered water. On the east coast there is a base on Koh Samui with the Ang Thong islands. The monsoons set the weather: in the Andaman Sea the season runs November to April, while May to October brings the south-west monsoon and rain; Samui is the reverse, dry in summer and wet in November–December. The fleet is mostly catamarans, and nights are spent at anchor.

Questions

Questions about yacht charter in Thailand

All questions and answers

How much does a week on a yacht cost in Thailand?

As of 24 Oct 2026, a discounted week in Thailand starts from €9,599 for the whole boat; half of the models are at least 20% off. Transit log, cleaning and the refundable deposit are paid at the base on top.

Which month is cheapest for a yacht charter in Thailand?

By the agent's latest checks (monohulls), the cheapest month is October: a median of €408 per berth per week. The most expensive is January, at €595. The most boats with 20% off or more are in October: 15%. The agent checks the current month and the next five; each month has its own page with the numbers.

Which is cheaper in Thailand: a catamaran or a sailing yacht?

Per berth per week in October: monohull median €408, catamaran €590. A week on a catamaran usually costs more, but it has more cabins and berths, so the price per berth is the fairer comparison. Discounted right now — catamarans: 5, monohulls: 0.

When is the best time to charter a yacht in Thailand?

In Phuket and the Andaman Sea the season runs November to April, with the best weather December to February. May to October brings the south-west monsoon: rain and swell, cheaper boats. Samui is the reverse: dry in summer, wet in November–December.

Can I charter a yacht in Thailand with a skipper or crew?

Yes. Almost every boat in the selection can be taken with a hired skipper, and a cook or hostess can be added on request. The crew is paid by the day on top of the boat price, and their food on board is on you. Without a skipper's licence and a VHF certificate, a skipper is mandatory. The RYC manager books the crew together with the boat.

Which one-week route should I pick in Thailand?

One-week routes in Thailand, planned day by day: “Phuket — Phang Nga”, 7 days, about 110 nautical miles; “Phuket — Phi Phi”, 7 days, about 130 nautical miles; “Phuket — Similan”, 7 days, about 170 nautical miles. Each route page has the legs, miles and overnight stops.

How far ahead should I book?

In the Mediterranean (Turkey, Greece, Croatia), you can catch hot deals 2–6 weeks ahead. For the Caribbean, the Seychelles and other exotic destinations, book early, 4–8 months ahead: fleets there are smaller and last-minute discounts almost never come up.

What's included in the boat price?

Just the boat, for a week. Usually paid separately: transit log and final cleaning, fuel, marina fees, the security deposit (or deposit insurance), a skipper, cook and hostess if you need them, and extras (SUP board, on-board Wi-Fi, coffee machine, child safety netting).

Do I need a licence to charter a yacht?

For a bareboat charter (no skipper or crew provided), yes: a skipper's licence and, as a rule, a VHF radio certificate. Without a licence, we add a skipper, paid separately from the boat price.

Why do all charters run Saturday to Saturday?

99% of charter fleets worldwide work this way: the boat comes back on Friday evening and goes out to the next crew on Saturday morning. Other changeover days are possible in low season, by arrangement. In some destinations (the Caribbean, Cuba, France) you can add days beyond the week: +1, 2, 3 or 4 days.

What is the security deposit and how is it paid?

The security deposit is your insurance excess in case of damage, usually €1,000–8,000. It is taken at the base at check-in on a credit card issued outside Russia: charter companies don't accept Russian cards or debit cards. With a hired skipper the deposit terms may be different, and not every charter company accepts a cash deposit or deposit insurance: check with the manager.

Where the numbers come from and how to cite them

The RYC search agent checks the charter company portals MMK and NauSys and open booking sites about every 6 days; each boat is counted once per week, at the source price with no markup. You may cite the figures on this page with a link to it; every month and country is in the CSV and on the Prices page.
